Waka Ama and Dragon Boating are steeped in tradition and have strong historical and cultural ties for New Zealanders. It is also a powerful team building exercise and an ideal sport for corporations such as Environment Waikato (EW).

As a team we train hard, paddle hard and play hard. With professional photography by the Photos Forever team, this website tells the story of EW and other Waikato paddlers both on and off the water.

A typical Maori blessing (karakia) used before entering the dragonboat or waka:

He honore he kororia ki te Atua
He maungarongo ki te mata o te whenua
He whakaaro pai ki ngà tàngata katoa

All honour and glory to our maker
Let there be peace and tranquillity on Earth
Goodwill to Mankind

Thank you to Rama Ormsby (EW Tai-ranga-whenua) for supplying this karakia.
