2010: Who was the best Dragon
Boat team in NZ in 2010? It's a difficult question to answer.
We could just look at the NZDBA nationals results; in which case
HCWS holds the top spot from Tu Meke Dragons and Ridge Racers
[See below].
Of course not every team races at Nationals and any team can
'get lucky' or 'have a bad day' so while a win is an important
milestone (and has bragging rights) it doesn't neccessarily point
to the best team. Mind you, if KPC had attended Nationals
they would have had a fairly firm butt kicking (after all everyone
knows the real National Champs in 2009 were HCWS).
Leagues, likewise, are highly problematic. Not every team races
at every event, differing courses and conditions, uneven distribution
on NI / SI events, conflicting dates and a host of other reasons.
Fortunately Math is out little-friend and a league table that
takes these factors into account is possible. HooRah.
I'll put the actual methodology up at a later time but, in brief,
all teams were rated out of a possible 480 points, where teams
had raced at less events the recieved a statistical aggregate,
where they had raced at more events only the best results were
counted.
So here are the league results.
